Disciplinary issues within the Church remain a major concern, The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, has observed, urging Ministers and members to uphold the values of accountability, respect and Christian maturity. He made the call in his report to the 26th General Assembly at the Ramseyer Training Centre, Abetifi–Kwahu.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah disclosed that during the period under review, the General Assembly Council had to address several disciplinary cases, many involving Agents of the Church. These cases, he said, touched on marital conduct, ministerial dressing and comportment, leadership styles, financial management, and complaints of unfair treatment or prejudice.
He noted that resolving these matters required “significant investment of time, finances and other resources” to ensure fair investigations, reconciliation and the preservation of the Church’s unity and integrity.
According to the Clerk, some investigations revealed strained relationships between Ministers and members, often linked to leadership approaches and administrative decisions. He stressed that effective ministry requires mutual respect, understanding, patience and cooperation between leaders and congregants.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah issued a strong caution against taking internal grievances to social media, describing the trend as harmful and damaging to the church’s witness. “Matters of concern should not be taken to social media platforms,” he said, warning that such actions expose internal issues unnecessarily, harm the church’s reputation and undermine reconciliation efforts.
He appealed to all Presbyterians to follow the church’s established procedures and channels for addressing grievances, urging both Agents and members to exercise restraint and demonstrate Christian maturity. Public disputes, he said, weaken evangelistic efforts, erode public confidence and create additional challenges for church leadership.
Rev. Aboagye‑Danquah concluded by calling the church to uphold its core values: love, discipline, accountability, forgiveness and mutual respect. These, he said, are essential for the growth, health and witness of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
