The Bicentennial Ecumenical Pilgrimage reached a historic and deeply symbolic moment on Sunday, 6th September 2026, when the delegation worshipped at the Collegial Church in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the home church of missionary Fritz Ramseyer, one of the foundational figures of Presbyterian witness in Ghana.
The 37‑member delegation, led by the Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah, joined the congregation for morning worship as part of the church’s 200th‑anniversary celebrations. The service offered pilgrims a rare opportunity to reconnect with the spiritual roots of early mission work and reflect on the legacy that shaped the PCG’s identity.
During the service, the Clerk delivered a presentation on behalf of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), expressing gratitude for the long‑standing partnership between the PCG and the Neuchâtel congregation. He highlighted the significance of Ramseyer’s ministry and the enduring impact of Swiss missionary efforts on Ghana’s Christian landscape.
The visit also included a tour of the Church Museum (Missionsstube), where pilgrims viewed historical artefacts, documents and exhibits detailing the missionary movement that influenced Presbyterian work in Ghana. Many described the experience as emotional and inspiring, noting that worshipping in Ramseyer’s home church brought the Bicentennial celebration to life in a profound way.
The Neuchâtel engagement forms part of the broader Bicentennial Ecumenical Pilgrimage across Switzerland and Germany, designed to honour the foundations laid by early missionaries and strengthen ecumenical ties for the future.
