The solemn rituals of the Call to the Bar in Ghana carried an added distinction on Friday, 9th October 2026, as Ms. Akosua Achiaa Sarpong, a member of the Ramseyer Memorial Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Adum‑Kumasi, emerged as the ceremony’s most celebrated candidate.

In a cohort of 1,568 newly enrolled lawyers, her name stood out twice when the General Legal Council announced recipients of its highest academic honours. In a manner befitting the traditions of the Bench and Bar, the Council conferred on her the John Mensah Sarbah Prize for Best All‑Round Performing Student, the award reserved for the candidate whose mastery of the law reflects both intellectual rigour and professional promise.

She also received the Best Student in Civil Procedure Award, a recognition that underscores her command of one of the most technical and demanding areas of legal training. Her achievement has drawn warm commendation from the Asante Presbytery, which praised her for bringing honour to the church and demonstrating the calibre of excellence Presbyterians continue to contribute to national life.

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has also noted that her performance reflects a growing tradition of Presbyterian leadership in professional spaces across the country. The Call to the Bar ceremony, organised by the General Legal Council, marks the formal entry of graduates into legal practice, granting them full authority to act as officers of the court.
