The Chancellor of the Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG), and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Opare Kwakye, has highlighted the University’s steady growth, expanding academic programmes and commitment to holistic education as key milestones in its mission of shaping responsible leaders for society.

Addressing the 20th Congregation Ceremony of PUG, the Chancellor said the University continues to advance the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s long-standing commitment to education through the development of the Head, Heart and Hand, a philosophy that seeks to produce intellectually capable, morally grounded and practically equipped graduates.

He noted that beyond preparing students for employment, education must nurture values such as honesty, discipline, hard work, compassion and integrity, especially at a time when these virtues face increasing pressure in society.

He expressed appreciation that Christian Ethics and Presbyterian Heritage remain compulsory courses for all undergraduates, while regular worship services continue to strengthen the spiritual life of the University community.

The Chancellor also commended the University’s continued growth in student enrolment, describing it as both a cause for thanksgiving and a call to greater responsibility in delivering quality academic services and student support.

He announced that more than 1,000 undergraduate students from thirteen academic programmes were graduating at this year’s congregation ceremony, describing the achievement as a testament to the dedication of the University Council, Management, faculty and staff, as well as the confidence reposed in the institution by students and their families.

He further welcomed the introduction of several new postgraduate programmes, including Cyber Security, Nursing, Strategic Management, Project Planning and Management, Guidance and Counselling, Organisational Leadership and Church Management and Administration.

According to him, the expansion of the University’s academic portfolio reflects its determination to respond to emerging professional and societal needs. “Our ambition should not simply be to offer more programmes, but to offer programmes of demonstrable quality that prepare graduates to make a difference,” he stated.

The Chancellor noted that PUG’s continued growth must be accompanied by an unwavering commitment to academic excellence, character formation and service to society, in line with the educational vision of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
