Asante Akyem: Leadership is service, says Rev. Agyekum Kobea

The newly elected Presbytery Chairperson for Asante Akyem, Rev. Bright Agyekum Kobea, has formally assumed office as the 8th Chairperson of the Presbytery, declaring that leadership in the church is fundamentally an act of service.

He made the remark during a special handing‑over service held at the Bethel Congregation, Konongo. The service, attended by Ministers, Presbytery Council members, group leaders and congregants from across the Presbytery, marked a significant moment of transition as Rev. Kobea took over from Rev. Mavis Hannah Yeboah, who served as Acting Chairperson.

In his acceptance speech, Rev. Kobea expressed deep gratitude to the Presbytery for the confidence reposed in him and for the opportunity to serve as the chief servant of the Presbytery. He emphasised that leadership is not about position or privilege but about humility, responsibility and service to God’s people. He therefore called for unity, prayer and collective effort from Ministers, Catechists, Presbyters and all congregants.

He urged the entire Presbytery to work together to advance the mission of the church, strengthen congregational life and deepen Christian witness across Asante Akyem and beyond. He noted that the work ahead requires collaboration, discipline and renewed commitment to the values of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
