Multi award-winning investigative and environmental broadcast journalist, Erastus Asare Donkor, has lauded the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at its 4th National Public Lecture, saying that the PCG has the moral authority lead national conversations such as the one on illegal mining practices that has rocked the country.
At the lecture held at the Ghana Police Church in Accra under the theme “Living Ecologically Just: A Biblical Response to Ecological Threats,” Erastus Asare Donkor brought a sobering perspective to the conversation, sharing insights from his extensive fieldwork on illegal mining and environmental abuse in Ghana.
He presented compelling evidence of widespread destruction caused by galamsey, including polluted rivers, devastated farmlands, and communities suffering from health hazards. He then commended the PCG for organising the lecture, noting that faith-based institutions like the have a unique moral authority to influence public opinion and policy.
He hoped that grassroots mobilisation and consistent advocacy from the church and civil society groups would yield positive outcomes. He urged the church to continue raising awareness and to partner with the media, activists, and policymakers in exposing wrongdoing and demanding accountability. He stated that the fight against galamsey requires not only government intervention but everyone who cares about Ghana like the PCG.
