The Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has celebrated its centenary with a special thanksgiving service at Kyebi on Sunday 20th November 2022.
The service brought together people from all walks of life with His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana as the Special Guest of Honour.
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rt Rev Prof Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante preached the sermon.
The Moderator commended the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery Chairperson Rev Dr. Seth Kissi and his team for a successful celebration. He also paid tribute to all founding fathers and mothers who sacrificed their resources and lives to ensure that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is rooted in the Akyem Abuakwa area.
The Moderator mentioned in particular Madam Susana Akosua Bour Gyankoroma a royal from Kyebi and her husband Opanyin Yaw Boakye who sacrificed their royalty for the sake of the Gospel.
Other dignitaries at the well-attended service were ministers of state, Members of Parliament from the Akyem Abuakwa area, some members of the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, and traditional leaders led by the Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin and many more.
Addressing the gathering President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians would soon witness results from engagements with relevant institutions and agencies as part of moves to address the current economic hardship.
The President indicated that he is not disturbed by the utterances of his critics and is focused on measures being adopted by his government to change the country’s economic fortunes. He, therefore, called on Ghanaians to pray, support and continue keeping faith in him to deliver the country from the current economic turmoil. “Just keep faith with us and pray with us. All will be well.”
The Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin the overlord of Akyem Abuakwa on his part linked President Akufo-Addo’s decision to build a National Cathedral to a desire of the late Okyenhene Nana Sir Ofori Atta.
Citations were presented to some individuals who have contributed to the growth of the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery in diverse ways.
The newly built Presbytery office complex was dedicated to the glory of God.
