The Chairperson of Ga West Presbytery, Rev. Enoch Adjei Pobee welcomed the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye to the Ga West Presbytery during the Moderator’s familiarisation visit to the Presbytery.

The Moderator has chosen to pay a familiarisation visit to all the Presbyteries following his assumption of office this month. Rt. Rev. Dr. Nana Opare became the 19th Moderator after his election during the 23rd General Assembly of the Church at Abetifi. The Ga West Presbytery is the first Presbytery to receive the Moderator in this regard.

Chairperson Briefing

The Chairperson of the Presbytery introduced the distinguished Moderator, highlighting the significance of the visit as it marked not only a historic milestone but also the Moderator’s inaugural duty.

He traced the Presbytery’s formation back to the leadership of Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, the then Chairperson of Ga Presbytery, who is now serving as the Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Rev. Pobee detailed the Presbytery’s growth, expanding from 11 to 21 Districts in seven years. He indicated that the Ga West Presbytery has 21 Districts, 2 Sub-Districts, and a Mission-field. Emphasizing their need, the Chairperson appealed to the Moderator that the Head Office should kindly consider that they are a young Presbytery that is now building their fund base. They presently rent the place for their office. Therefore, when there is any payment demand from the top, it should be considered.

Moderator’s Call

Rt. Rev. Dr. Nana Opare Kwakye expressed gratitude for the warm reception and outlined the purpose of his visit. He thanked the Ga West Presbytery for their support during and after his election as the Moderator and stressed the importance of acquainting himself with the Presbytery. In addition to acquainting himself with the Presbytery, he was there for their prayers.

Setting the pace to hear from the Presbytery about their expectations and ideas to grow PCG, the Moderator outlined these points:

1. Church Growth

2. Celebration of Bicentennial
3. Kutunse Project
4. Agenda 1000
5. Being Presbyterian
6. Reform and the Contemporary Era

Interaction with the Moderator

There were many great ideas and questions shared on the floor. The areas captured for the interaction have been outlined as follows:

Kutunse Project: The Kutunse project is to be completed before the bicentenary anniversary of the church. The Kuntunse project should be given to the Presbyteries to build while the Head Office focuses on furnishing. The Kuntunse project must have a definite proposal to indicate our seriousness.

Agenda 1000: A bold initiative to plant 1000 churches in anticipation of the church’s 200-year celebration.

Presbyterian Identity: Acknowledging the church’s positive impact in Ghana, the Presbyterian Church is one of the leading denominations in the country. As members, we must be proud of our church.

Reform and Contemporary Era: The basic reason why the PCG is doing so well as a church is because of the dynamism in the church. Meanwhile, PCG has a long way to go in our quest to meet the “artificial intelligence” era in which we find ourselves.

Welfare issues of PCG Ministers of the church. The Moderator was encouraged to speak passionately about it to put smiles on the faces of Ministers.

Other areas covered include Christian Messenger, PCGTV, TIB, Salem Water, and many others.

As the Presbyterian community eagerly anticipates the unfolding of these initiatives, the Moderator’s visit serves as a testament to the church’s commitment to growth, unity, and a shared vision for the future.

The journey towards the 200th anniversary promises to be a transformative period for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Ga West, the ordained and lay gathered around the Moderator and prayed for God’s protection and blessings for him, his family, and those he works with.
