PCG DONATES TO HO PRISONS
The Riis Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has carried out its annual donations to the inmates of the Ho Central Prisons. This was made possible with the support of the Prisons Ministry of the PCG. The Local Bible Study and Prayer Group and other benevolent individuals gave generously towards the success of the inmate visitation.
In Matthew 25, Jesus taught us to care for the homeless, prisoners, the sick, and the hungry. Jesus said, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’” (Matthew 25:34-36)
Against this call, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the pioneer pace setter, the primus interperis, the oldest continuously existing church in Ghana continues to warm hearts with the love of Christ by feeding the hungry, quenching the thirsty, welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and going to the aid of the prisoner.
Presenting the items at the forecourt of the Ho Central Prisons on Sunday, 14th April 2024, the Volta Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Frank Oguase Adu charged officers of the Ghana Prisons Service to consider their role as a special ministry for God and country. Rev. Adu explained that, though there may be several challenges confronting their work, the officers must remain focused on the job, help in the transformation process of inmates, and above all keep their faith in God.
Items donated include bags of rice, sugar, gari, sanitary pads, carbolic and Liquid soaps, used clothing, medical supplies, and laboratory tools valued at GHC 10,270.00.
Receiving the items, ASP Frank Avadu thanked the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for her unrelenting support towards the welfare of inmates in Ghana’s prisons. While urging other faith-based organizations and benevolent individuals to come to the aid of the Ho Prisons, he also assured the Church that the items received would be put to good use. A former inmate Mr Stephen Frimpong also advised the inmates to be of good behaviour, receive Jesus Christ for transformed lives, and have faith in God.
In attendance were the Volta Presbytery Chairperson Rev. Frank Oguase Adu, the Dangbe Tongu Presbytery Chairperson Rev. Abraham D. Okai, Volta Presbytery Clerk Rev. Gilbert Miwornunyuie, and the Ho District Minister Rev. Emmanuel Obiri Yeboah. Some leaders of the Bible Study and Prayer Group, the Riis Congregational Session, and members were also in attendance.
