PCG EMBARKS ON NATIONWIDE PEACE CAMPAIGN

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) successfully held Peace Walks through the principal streets of Accra (Ga and Ga West) and in various communities across the country, including Kumasi (Asante), Sefwi, Akwapem, Volta, and other Presbyteries. This event, aimed at promoting peace and unity in Ghana before, during, and after the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, brought together hundreds of participants in Accra alone.

The walk featured vibrant displays of unity as church members, clad in branded shirts “Peace Ambassador; I Stand for Peace,” marched through the streets while singing and dancing to Brigade band tune and Public Address System and holding placards with messages of peace and love.

In Accra, at the Head Office of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, an address was read on behalf of the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye. The Moderator underscored the importance of peace as a cornerstone for national development and a reflection of the Christian faith. He encouraged all citizens to be ambassadors of peace in their communities, especially as the nation goes to the pools on December 7, 2024.

“The PCG appeals to the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to be fair and transparent because Justice and Peace go together. As we pursue peace, if there is no fairness, if there is no transparency, we will have problems.”

Rev. Enoch Pobee, Ga West Chairperson, reading the address of the Moderator, urged “all the stakeholders in the electioneering process including voters, political parties, the EC candidates, security officials, election observers, and the general public to be good citizens and stewards and ensure a violent-free election.”

Similar walks in Kumasi and other Presbyteries showcased the church’s commitment and advocacy to fostering harmony and togetherness nationwide. Peace remains an essential advocacy and pursuit of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, resonating with its mission of inspiring societal transformation through faith-based initiatives, “Asomdwoe nka wo…”

Participants pledged to ensure Peace wherever they may find themselves before, during, and after the general elections. As Peace Ambassadors, they expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, with many commending the church for using its platforms to advocate for peace and societal cohesion.

This Peace Walk Campaign has reaffirmed the PCG’s role as a unifying force in Ghanaian society, spreading the message of hope, love, and harmony.
