75TH ANNIVERSARY OF KALANDE CONGREGATION
On Sunday 24th November 2024, the Kalande Congregation in the Salaga District of the Northern Presbytery successfully held the Thanksgiving Service of their 75th Anniversary celebration. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye graced the occassion and delivered the sermon. He also dedicated a memorial monument at the place of the old chapel of the Congregation.
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, urged Ghanaians especially political parties to make the preservation of the country’s peace a priority.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 75th anniversary, the Moderator appealed to the youth not to allow any politician to use them to cause trouble.
“I call on the electoral commission to discharge their duties without any hitches which I believe will if done, will amount to a sustainable peace during this electioneering period”
He urged political parties to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner.
“It should be possible for us to have elections without any deaths. And so I call on every Ghanaian to show the whole of Africa and beyond that we are the beacon of democracy”
During the service two motorbikes were donated to the Kalande Congregation by the Northern Presbytery and by the Presbytery Chairperson and his spouse together with Dr. Emmanuel Boache Chamba, former Lay Rep to General Assembly. The Chairperson’s Spouse, Mama Portia Yeboah in addition, donated a box with 20 Presbyterian Hymn Books.
Apart from the Moderator, other key personalities in attendance were the Northern Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Simon Kofi Yeboah, the Presbytery Clerk, Rev. Jasper Maas, the MCE for East Gonja District, Hon. Richard Broni, the Member of Parliament for the Salaga South Constituency for NDC, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahim, the parliamentary candidate for Salaga South Constituency on the ticket of NPP, Hon. Salifu Adam Braimah,the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company, Dr. Clifford Braimah, and several clergy from the Northern Presbytery and beyond.
The Kalande Congregation is one of the oldest Congregations in the Northern Presbytery and the first to celebrate the milestone of a 75th anniversary.
