Serving in the example of God [Philippians 3:17-21]

The Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, sympathize with the family of the late Late Justice Djan Opare-Addo at PCG Emmanuel Congregation, Aburi during the burial service.

In the tributes and biography of the late Justice Djan Opare-Addo, the Moderator took note of the how he lived his life of 101 years. The children recounted that, there was a time in his life as a judge when in his absence someone brought gift of food stuff to him. On his return, when informed of the visit and gifts, he pack all the items to the police station and made complaints on it. A life of integrity.

The Moderator reflected on this through the Scripture when Paul’s calls on the Philippians to join together following his example. According to Paul, there are two categories of human beings.
1. Enemies of the cross of Christ
2. Citizens of Heaven.

Moderator exhorted that, those who are found in the first category are those whose desire is selfish gains, take glory in the things of shame – the number of women they’ve conquered or how much government funds they’ve embezzled etc.

For the second category, he added, are those whose minds are set on Heaven. They live on earth but only pleasure in Heavenly rules. They’re members of God’s family whose lives are carved around the cause of Christ.
