Hon. Dr. Bryn Acheampong Pays Courtesy Call on Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana
Church House, Osu – Accra – June 2025
The Church House, Osu, was the scene of a gracious and historical encounter as Hon. Dr. Bryn Acheampong paid a courtesy call on the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye. The visit, marked by reflection, prayer, and fraternal exchange, was part of Dr. Acheampong’s desire to formally present himself to the leadership of his own church, PCG, and to seek blessings as he embarks on his political journey to contest as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Bryn Acheampong, warmly welcomed by the Ag. Clerk of GA, Rev. Andrew Odjawo, began the meeting by sharing his deep Presbyterian roots. He recounted his upbringing in the Church, tracing his spiritual formation from childhood to his days at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon. He mentioned in appreciation to the Rev. J. H. Ofosuhene, a notable Presbyterian Minister who mentored him through his formative years and shaped his sense of service and leadership.
With humility and clarity, Dr. Acheampong officially announced his ambition to lead Ghana as President on the ticket of the NPP. He expressed his belief in servant leadership grounded in the values of discipline, integrity, hard work, and faith, which the Presbyterian Church has instilled in him.
In response, the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. A. N. O. Kwakye expressed the joy of receiving a son of the Church who carries both ambition and reverence for his spiritual heritage. He noted that the timing of the visit was divinely aligned, as PCG is currently preparing to mark 200 years of Christian witness and national contribution in Ghana (1828–2028). The Moderator highlighted the vital role of PCG in Ghana’s independence struggle, with several members of the historic Big Six belonging to the Church, as well as its unwavering commitment to social development through schools, hospitals, and agricultural initiatives.
The Moderator encouraged Dr. Acheampong to let his Presbyterian training be the moral compass of his campaign, urging him to champion unity, truth, and responsibility within his party and across the nation. “The nation is watching,” he said, “and the Church is praying. May your journey be guided by godly wisdom and national peace.”
He concluded by assuring Dr. Acheampong of the Church’s blessings and continual prayers, stating that “it would be a joyous celebration to climax our Bicentennial Anniversary in 2028 with the nation inducting a Presbyterian President.”
The meeting ended with fervent prayers over Dr. Acheampong and his entourage, committing their aspirations and plans into God’s hands.
Present at this meeting were Rev. Col. Adoteye Asare, Chairperson for Ga Presbytery, Rev. Enoch Adjei Pobee, Chairperson for Ga West Presbytery, and Directors of the Head Office.
