All 21 Presbyteries of PCG see Growth
All 21 Presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana observed a growth of 103,392 new members, representing 7.57%, according to a report by the Clerk of General Assembly of the Church, Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor.
“Church growth is still important for us. Our Congregations outside (Ghana) are doing well. Chapels and manses are being acquired, and more Congregations have sprung up, and we are on course with Agenda Two Million and Planting of One Thousand New Churches” GA Clerk indicated.
Throughout 2024, all 21 Presbyteries experienced membership growth, with rates ranging from 4.5 to 13.5 percent. The Europe Presbytery achieved the highest growth rate of 13.5%, while the Kwahu Presbytery had the lowest at 4.5%.
In terms of gender composition, the membership consists of 58 percent females and 42 percent males, demonstrating a consistent gender distribution pattern. The age profile of the Church also shows that about 60 percent of the total membership is under 30 years old.
Asante Presbytery remains the largest contributor to the Church’s total membership, with 211,989 members, accounting for 14.4% of the entire PCG population. It also recorded the highest number of new members during the year, numbering 16,492.
This was followed by Ga Presbytery, which gained 13,270 new members, and Akuapem Presbytery, contributing 8,873 new members. In terms of human resources, the number of Ministers increased by 3%, reaching a total of 1,519, of which 87% are ordained Ministers and 13% are probationers. The number of Catechists grew by 9%, rising to 3,273.
Structurally, the Church expanded its reach and presence. A total of 14 new Districts were established in 2024, increasing the overall number to 380. The number of congregations grew by 104, reaching a total of 3,301, while Preaching Points rose by 98, totaling 2,342. Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor pointed out that there was a need for renewed efforts in evangelism, especially in Presbyteries where growth remains below target.
