Those in the forefront of assisting the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) lands must feel encouraged and not be afraid of anything, a former Clerk of the General Assembly of the PCG, Rev. Herbert Anim Opong has noted.
He said the lawyers of the PCG needed to have a mindset of dominion and be strong in their resolve to overcome the challenges surrounding the properties on which they are working.
According to Rev. Herbert Anim Opong, “Everything in this world is God’s creation and therefore humans are not the ultimate owners but only stewards of God’s creation.
“Lands are God’s property, he will give us the courage, wisdom and strength to have dominion over it”, said Rev. Herbert Anim Opong in his speech at the 2025 Annual PCG Lawyers Consultation on Court Cases and Legal Issues at the Presbyterian Women’s Training Centre, Abokobi.
He charged the lawyers of the church to be courageous and take possession of the lands the PCG had inherited and were being encroached, praying that God would give them the wisdom and strength to execute their task.
“Through the work of the missionaries God has given us lands and landed property. He expects us to be good stewards of the lands. Lands are legacies for later generations, and the ultimate owner of land is God. To be good stewards, we must protect what he has given us” he said.
“Our stewardship of lands is important. God is the creator and sustainer of the universe. He has entrusted us to take of these properties” he emphasised. Rev. Herbert Anim Opong pointed out that God’s commandments transcend simple legal instructions and that there were implications of what we set ourselves to do.
He warned that there might be opposition to the PCG’s lands acquisition and stewardship but nothing God has entrusted into the church’s care should be lost. “Lands bequeath to us are our heritance; we refuse to be limited by the challenges. Not every occupant of land is the true owner, especially our encroached property. They may be occupying it, but they are not the owners.
Rev. Herbert Anim Opong praised the lawyers of the church for their stewardship of our tangible properties.
