The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has made a passionate appeal to His Gracious Majesty Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV, Chief of the Akyem Kotoku State, to use his influence and leadership to help combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
During the Chief’s visit to the PCG General Assembly Office, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye described galamsey as “critical” and “a terrible thing,” calling on the chief to rally fellow traditional leaders in addressing the environmental and social damage it causes.
“Use your platform with chiefs, your Christian values, and your international exposure to draw attention to the ills of this society,” he urged. The Moderator stressed that the conversation around galamsey must remain active and persistent. “We shouldn’t stop talking about galamsey,” he said.
Beyond environmental concerns, the Moderator highlighted the PCG’s commitment to development in the Kotoku State. He announced plans to collaborate with the chief on expanding access to higher education in the region and reaffirmed the church’s dedication to community upliftment. “PCG will not abandon the state of Kotoku community,” he assured. “We will partner them in development.”
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye also spoke about the church’s growth initiative, Agenda 2Million, which seeks to expand PCG’s membership. He encouraged the chief and other traditional leaders to actively participate in church life and support its mission. He talked about the church’s Kutunse Project as a testament to the church’s growth and investment. in national development.
