On the third day of his pastoral tour of the Western Presbytery, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, visited the Emmanuel Congregation in Enchi, where he interacted with Agents and congregants from the Enchi, Asankragwa, Samareboi, and Manso Amenfi Districts.
Warm Welcome and Facility Dedications
The Moderator’s arrival was marked by a vibrant procession led by brass band music, as congregants and church leaders escorted him from the main Enchi road to the church premises. He commended the districts for their warm reception and enthusiasm.
During the visit, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye dedicated two key facilities: the newly constructed Enchi District Office and a Reproductive Child Health (RCH) Centre at the Presbyterian Hospital Service, Enchi. These additions are expected to enhance administrative efficiency and healthcare delivery in the district.
Ministerial Shortages and Presbytery Expansion
In ministerial reports presented by the districts, a recurring concern was the scarcity of ministers in the area. The Moderator acknowledged the challenge and assured the gathering that additional ministers would be posted to Enchi and surrounding districts.
“Receive them well and take good care of them when they come,” he advised. Reflecting on the vast distances between districts in the Western Presbytery, the Moderator hinted at the possibility of creating a new presbytery to improve pastoral effectiveness.
“Discussions on a new presbytery have been ongoing, but coming here makes me believe that it’s time to consider it,” he said. “If there will be a new Presbytery out of the Western Presbytery, then the three districts plus the others we have visited must work harder.”
Bicentennial Celebration and Bible Promotion
The Moderator reiterated the significance of the upcoming Bicentennial Anniversary of the PCG in 2028, marking 200 years of faith and service. “2028 is a special year. We all must join hands and celebrate it to the glory of God,” he said.
He also announced plans to return for the 70th anniversary celebration of the Emmanuel Congregation at Enchi. He encouraged congregants to patronise the special bicentennial Bibles, available in Ga, Dangme, Ewe, Asante, and Akuapem Twi.
Agenda 2Million and Church Growth
Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye applauded the districts for their growth rates between 5 and 8 percent. He urged them to aim for the national target of 10 percent under the Agenda 2Million initiative. “We have to join forces to grow the church,” he said, stressing the importance of evangelism and discipleship.
Kutunse Project and Vision for 2028
The Moderator shared updates on the Kutunse Project, which began in May 2025. He expressed optimism that the 2028 General Assembly and election of a new Moderator would be held at the new Kutunse Conference Centre, currently under construction. “The work is progressing. We must help ourselves and sustain the momentum,” he noted.
Call for Unity and Pride in Presbyterian Identity
Concluding his message, the Moderator emphasised the importance of unity within the church, reminding congregants of the PCG’s motto: “That they all may be one.”
“Groups in the church should stay united and proud of the church,” he said. The visit to Enchi reaffirmed the Moderator’s commitment to strengthening the PCG’s infrastructure, pastoral care, and spiritual growth across the Western Presbytery.
