The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called on staff of the Presbyterian Health Service (PHS), Enchi, to uphold the core values of the Church in their daily work, emphasising that healthcare delivery is a sacred ministry.
During his visit to the facility as part of his Western Presbytery tour, the Moderator reminded staff that their work is deeply rooted in the Church’s mission.
“As part of my visit to the Presbytery, I see not only churches but institutions as well,” he said. “When the Church entered health care delivery, it entered with a reason. For us, healthcare delivery is ministry. It’s not just business, it’s ministry.”
He stressed that the Presbyterian identity of the facility should reflect in the conduct and commitment of every staff member. “Know that it’s a Presbyterian facility. Whatever happens here affects the Presbyterian Church of Ghana,” he said. “Every time you step on this ground, you are a Presbyterian. As long as you’ve chosen to work here, you’re a Presbyterian.”
The PHS-Enchi currently operates with a staff strength of 118, including five Physician Assistants, one of whom is undergoing training to become a medical doctor. The facility has 32 beds, an average monthly OPD attendance of 1,650, and 50 monthly deliveries. However, only 12 out of 88 staff are accommodated on-site, with the rest relying on rented housing.
The Moderator commended the dedication of the staff and prayed for the facility’s elevation. “I pray that this health centre will become Presbyterian Hospital, Enchi,” he said.
