Renewed commitment to discipleship necessary
The Clerk of General Assembly of the PCG, Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor has reminded the church of God’s faithfulness in sustaining the National Evangelism and Church Growth Consultation since 1994.
In a speech read on his behalf by General Assembly Clerk-elect, Rev. David Aboagye-Danquah; Rev. Dr Odonkor called for renewed commitment to discipleship and evangelism. “This platform brings us together each year to reflect deeply on our mission, assess our progress, and renew our commitment to the Great Commission,” he said.
The consultation is being held under the theme: “Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid Through Effective Discipleship.” The Clerk of General Assembly explained that the theme calls the Church to honour the solid foundation laid by its forebears while taking bold steps to disciple a new generation for Christ.
Highlighting progress made in recent years, Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor cited the Agenda 2Million initiative, the establishment of new congregations, revitalised discipleship programmes, shepherding models, prayer initiatives, enhanced global mission efforts, and renewed evangelistic passion across Presbyteries.
He, however, acknowledged that much remains to be done. “The fields are extensive, the prospects abundant, and the responsibility even greater,” he noted. Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor emphasised that the consultation provides space for collective discernment.
“May our discussions be honest, our reflections profound, and our affirmations Spirit-led. At this consultation, let us have a shared desire to see the Presbyterian Church of Ghana flourish,” he urged. Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor prayed that the Holy Spirit would renew, empower, and send forth participants with fresh passion for evangelism and discipleship.
Participants include the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Presbytery Chairpersons and Clerks, Mission and Evangelism Directors and Committee leaders. The rest are representatives of GAC Lay Reps, Women and Men’s Fellowship, Bible Study and Prayer Group, NUPS-G, YAF, and chaplains of Presbyterian institutions.
