Tamale, Garu PAS grab famer’s day award
The Presbyterian Agricultural Stations (PAS) in Tamale and Garu have been adjudged the Best Faith-Based Organisation in Agriculture at the Farmers’ Day celebrations held in the Northeast Gonja and Garu Municipalities respectively.
The recognition affirms the vital role of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in advancing rural development and promoting sustainable farming practices across the country.
In a citation presented to the Tamale PAS, the station was commended “for its contribution to rural development in the North East Gonja District of the Savannah Region.” The citation praised the station’s exceptional commitment to improving livelihoods through the provision of potable drinking water, agricultural transformation, and the establishment of farmer-based organisations.
It further acknowledged the station’s support in agricultural extension delivery, empowerment of women in agriculture, and strengthening of farmer cooperatives—initiatives that have enhanced productivity and increased food security in the district.
The Garu PAS was similarly celebrated for its dedication to empowering local farmers and promoting community resilience through practical agricultural interventions. Its work has contributed significantly to improving household incomes and ensuring sustainable food production in the municipality.
These feats add to the growing list of honours won by the PCG during the 2025 Farmers’ Day celebrations, including the national award in Ho where the Church was named National Best Faith-Based Organisation in Practical Agriculture, as well as district-level recognitions in Ablekuma Central and the Brong Ahafo Presbytery.
The awards underscore the PCG’s holistic mission of combining faith with practical development, demonstrating that the PCG’s agricultural stations are not only centres of farming but also hubs of empowerment, innovation, and community transformation.
