The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called on members of the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) to recommit themselves to discipleship and the study of God’s Word as the group marks its 60th Anniversary Convention at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

Speaking at the opening session, the Moderator stated that Bible study is not a one-off activity but a lifelong discipline central to Christian growth. “Discipleship was one of the principal objectives of the BSPG. We have to study the Word of God and teach others,” he said.

He noted that the milestone celebrations of BSPG at 60 and PCG at 200, alongside the church’s Agenda 2Million vision, present a unique opportunity to deepen Bible study in congregations, especially among young people. “We must let Bible study in the congregations go deep into our children,” he urged.

The Moderator cautioned against the rise of teachings that drift away from the truth of Scripture, stressing that prayer must be accompanied by a firm grounding in the Word. “It is good to pray, but it is important we study and teach the Word of God,” he added.

Highlighting the importance of discipleship, he reminded members that evangelism must be followed by nurturing believers to be rooted in Christ. “Evangelism is good, but when the Word of God comes to people it is important that they are rooted in Christ,” he said.

Reflecting on the heritage of the BSPG, the Moderator commended long-standing members who have remained steadfast because they were well-rooted in Christ. He encouraged the group to pass on the values and teachings they have received to future generations. “Celebrating our heritage means passing on what was given to you. God has blessed the BSPG,” he concluded.

The four-day convention continues at KNUST with worship, Bible studies, and prayer and workshop sessions, celebrating six decades of spiritual impact.
