Build on Christ’s foundation, Rev. Dr. J. W. Acheampong urges BSPG
The Protestant Chaplain of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Rev. Dr. J. W. Acheampong, has called on members of the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG) and the wider Christian community to teach and live their lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ.
Delivering the keynote address at the 60th Anniversary Convention of the BSPG, held at KNUST, Kumasi, on the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid – With Perseverance” (1 Corinthians 3:6–10), Rev. Dr. Acheampong said Jesus Christ was the true and only foundation on which Christians must build their lives and teachings, encouraging believers to do so with godly wisdom and knowledge.
Rev. Dr. J. W. Acheampong shared an insightful view of Christian identity and mission. He challenged the BSPG to see their dual role as both the essential materials and the active builders in building God’s church. “Christians are the building of God; the church is God’s building,” he declared, stressing that Jesus Christ Himself is the only true foundation.
“We are co-workers with God in building His church,” he continued, underscoring that believers are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of contributing to its growth, equipped by God with wisdom, strength, and knowledge.
Drawing from Psalm 127:1, Rev. Dr. Acheampong cautioned that “unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” He pointed to Jesus Christ as the anointed expert builder whose life and teachings provide the perfect blueprint for believers to follow. “Christ set a good example for us to follow – the foundation of the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ,” he explained.
He urged BSPG members and Christians to intentionally discipline themselves, acknowledge the presence of the Trinity—God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and prepare their hearts to receive God’s word without hindrance. This spiritual readiness, he argued, was the first and most critical step in contributing to the building of God’s church.
Reflecting on the honour of addressing the convention in the presence of the principal officers of the PCG, Rev. Dr. Acheampong described the opportunity as “a humbling experience.” He concluded by encouraging participants to keep their faith firmly rooted in Christ, ensuring that their contributions to the church were made with perseverance, integrity, and a deep awareness of their vital role in God’s ongoing work.
