Youth Participation Key to BSPG Future – Dr. Owusu Afriyie
The National President of the Bible Study and Prayer Group (BSPG), Richard Owusu-Afriyie (Ph. D), has called for deliberate efforts to attract children and youth into the Group to ensure its future vibrancy and relevance.
“The active participation of young people is essential if the Group is to remain dynamic, intergenerational, and relevant for the future,” he said. In his New Year message, he noted that while 60% of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s membership is under 30 years old, BSPG’s membership is dominated by adults.
He urged leaders to create platforms for youth to discover their talents, establish structured campus ministries, mentor young people, and leverage ICT to sustain their interest. He also encouraged members to support the BSPG Centre projects through generous giving and viable financing options, stressing that completing the projects on time would prevent rising costs and strengthen the Group’s mission.
He also highlighted the group’s designation in 1986 as the Evangelistic Wing of the PCG, following a nationwide survey that identified BSPG as a key driver of church growth. He urged members to preserve this legacy by supporting evangelistic crusades and the PCG’s Agenda 2 Million Souls and 1,000 Congregations programmes.
