Day One Report – Moderator’s Central Presbytery Visit

Main message: Stay united in Christ

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has charged congregants and ministers in the districts in and around Kasoa to remain united in Christ. He emphasised that unity is the most important foundation for witnessing and winning souls for the Kingdom of God.

“A united church stands to do more for God than a divided one. Let us stay in unity and fight a common enemy, which is Satan. The unity of our church is important. I urge you all to live in unity,” the Moderator stated.

First Stop: Emmanuel Congregation, Kasoa

The Moderator delivered this message at Emmanuel Congregation, Kasoa, the first stop of his Central Presbytery tour. Present were agents, presbyters, and church leaders from Kasoa, Nyanyano, Kasoa North, and Kasoa South districts.

He explained that the purpose of his pastoral visit was not only to work from the Head Office but also to engage congregations directly, assessing how districts and presbyteries were faring. He commended the Central Presbytery for its productive growth and encouraged them to continue their good work.

Districts Reports

District ministers from the various districts in the Kasoa Zone reported on their activities focusing primarily on membership growth practical evangelism strategies, fundraising plans, and progress for Kutunse as well as their districts’ strengths and challenges. The Moderator commended the Districts ministers, Agents, catechists, and caretakers including presbyters for their sacrifices and encourage them to do more.

Bicentennial and Kutunse Project

Highlighting the church’s bicentennial celebration, the Moderator urged congregants and leaders to fully participate in all activities leading to the 200th anniversary. He specifically mentioned the legacy bicentennial bibles, encouraging members to purchase copies for themselves, friends, and family. He also spoke about the progress of the Kutunse Project, calling for prayer and financial support to complete the visionary initiative.

Interaction with Congregants

Congregants were given ample time to ask questions, which focused on membership issues, contributions to the Kutunse Project, the PCG’s role in health and education, and support for the Kasoa Northern Outreach Programme.

Visit to Awushie Traditional Area

From Emmanuel Congregation, the Moderator proceeded to the palace of the Benkumhene of Awushie Traditional Area, Nana Odupon Awushie Tetteh, accompanied by ministers from the Kasoa zone. He paid homage to the chief and elders, highlighting the pioneering role of the PCG in Christianity in Ghana and its contributions to health and education.

He also touched on the bicentennial celebration and expressed gratitude for the support of traditional authorities. The Moderator prayed for the chief and his elders, who in turn thanked him and the PCG for the visit.

Scope of the Pastoral Visit

The pastoral tour will span about a dozen districts grouped into four zones. The Kasoa Zone covers Kasoa, Nyanyano, Kasoa North, and Kasoa South; the Swedru Zone includes Swedru, Swedru North, Kwanyako, and Winneba; the Asikuma Zone comprises Asikuma Bisease and Brakwa; while the Nsaba Zone brings together Nsaba, Nyakrom, and Akroso districts.
