The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has expressed deep concern over the rising cases of violence in Senior High Schools across the country.
He described the trend as disturbing and unacceptable, stressing that such behaviour among students must be condemned and addressed urgently. The Moderator made these remarks during a courtesy call on Nana Okaseku Afari Mintah II, Omanhene of the Agona Nsaba Traditional Council, as part of his pastoral tour of the Central Presbytery.
He emphasised that the church would continue to play its role in instilling discipline and moral values in young people but called for collective action to curb the growing indiscipline. “We will train our children to be good. We also appeal to you to add your voice to the call to end school violence,” he pleaded, urging traditional leaders, parents, and educators to join forces in tackling the menace.
As a symbol of goodwill, the Moderator presented a customised bicentennial Bible to the chief and extended an invitation to him to participate in the church’s 200th anniversary celebrations in December 2028.
In his response, Nana Okaseku Afari Mintah II expressed gratitude for the visit, describing it as a reflection of the longstanding relationship between the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Nsaba Traditional Council. He commended the contributions of the church, particularly through its schools, which he said have been powerful tools for evangelism and moral training.
The Omanhene, himself a former teacher, extolled Presbyterian discipline and acknowledged its impact on generations of students. He lamented the growing indiscipline in some Senior High Schools, noting that the situation requires urgent attention. “I know what training entails and what discipline is. We must not allow indiscipline to destroy the future of our children,” he said.
He fully accepted the Moderator’s invitation to the bicentennial celebration, assuring him of the support of the traditional council.
