PAS Garu reports strong progress
The Presbyterian Agricultural Station (PAS) in Garu reported significant achievements in the first half of 2025, underscoring its role as a pioneer in agricultural service delivery and livelihood empowerment in northern Ghana.
Established in 1967, the station covers Garu, Tempane, and parts of Bawku Municipal, Pusiga, Bawku West, Bunkpurugu/Nakpanduri, Nasuan/Yunyoo, and Binduri Districts.
Its mission is to promote equitable and sustainable income and food security through integrated advisory services.
Giving its mid‑year progress report during the Moderator’s visit in Garu on Monday, the station’s manager, Mr. Obed Asunka, highlighted successes across several projects including the Village Savings and Loans Fund (VSLA), Shea Value Chain, Faranaya Agribusiness Centre, Chief Righters Training Institute, Fuji Oil, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and Grain for Growth (IDH).
He listed the key achievements as making farm inputs more accessible and affordable, providing employment opportunities for youth and vulnerable groups, diversifying sorghum markets, and developing nutritious sorghum‑based products for local communities.
“The station also introduced environmentally friendly agrochemical practices through trained spray gangs, and expanded farmer access to new technologies via demonstration farms” said the PAS Manager.
Despite challenges such as high fertilizer costs, limited access to finance, and low technology adoption, Mr. Obed Asunka pointed out that, the station continues to improve the economic status of marginalised farming communities, particularly women. He expressed the station’s gratitude to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana leadership, donors, and partners for their support, noting that “God was in and among us to direct every affair in our journey in the midst of economic challenges.”
