Embrace new life Christ’s resurrection brings – Moderator
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has called on Christians not only to accept the new life brought through Christ’s resurrection but also to actively share his message with others.
Preaching on Resurrection Sunday at the Ebe‑Ezer Congregation, Osu, on the theme “Raised to New Life – Witnesses of His Victory,” the Moderator stated that Easter is not merely a celebration of Christ’s resurrection but a reminder that Jesus Christ ushers believers into a new phase of life.
Drawing an analogy from football, he explained that outcomes may be a win, loss, or draw, but once the match is over, no one watches a recorded game with anxiety because the result is already known. In the same way, although those who witnessed the crucifixion believed Christ’s story had ended on Good Friday, Christians today know the full story—that it did not end there, for He rose again in victory on Resurrection Sunday.
Referencing the Gospel of Matthew, the Moderator recounted the dramatic events surrounding the resurrection: a great earthquake, the descent of an angel from heaven, the rolling away of the heavily sealed stone, and the guards who trembled in fear. The angel sitting on the stone, he explained, symbolised Christ’s complete victory over death and every opposing force.
He reminded the congregation that the Christian journey is not without trials. “Even Christ went through suffering,” he noted, “and so we too may face challenges.” However, he reassured believers that the message of Easter is one of hope—when God steps in, He rolls away every obstacle and establishes His victory.
Quoting Romans 8:11, he concluded that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in believers, bringing life to every dead situation and renewing their mortal bodies. He urged all Christians to live as true witnesses of this victory, reflecting the power of the resurrection in their daily lives.
