“There’s humility in PCG” – Obrempong Simtim Poku III
The Chief of Akyem Manso and Benkumhene of the Kotoku Traditional Council, Obrempong Simtim Poku III, has praised the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) for what he described as its deep‑rooted culture of humility.
“The Presbyterian Church of Ghana is a very humble church. There is humility in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. I was baptised in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in 1961, so I know what I am talking about,” the chief declared to a cheering congregation at the Unity Congregation, Akyem Manso.
His remarks came during the Moderator’s pastoral visit to the West Akyem Presbytery. The chief commended the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare‑Kwakye, for his sermon, in which he reminded the congregation that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana belongs to no individual but to God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Moderator emphasised that the PCG’s foundation is firmly built on Scripture, and no one can lay claim to it except Christ Himself. It was against this backdrop that Obrempong Simtim Poku III reiterated his point, adding that when the missionaries arrived, they settled in Akropong, a place known for humility.
“This church has humility. Teach our children to be humble. Let them know that it pays to be humble,” he urged. The chief appealed to the Moderator to consider establishing a Presbyterian tertiary educational institution at Akyem Manso, noting that such an initiative would benefit the community and strengthen the church’s presence.
