God is faithful; be faithful too

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare‑Kwakye, has called on Christians to walk faithfully with the Lord, reminding believers that faithfulness is both the nature of God and the expectation He places on His people.

He made the call during his sermon at the Calvary Congregation, Akyem Awisa, on the final day of his pastoral visit to the West Akyem Presbytery.

Preaching on the theme “Faithfulness”, the Moderator explained that faithfulness is a moral attribute of God, deeply rooted in Scripture. He noted that God possesses attributes He shares with no one, such as omnipresence, and attributes He graciously shares with His children.

“When we say God is omnipresent, that is an attribute He does not share with anyone,” he said. “But when we say God is faithful, that is an attribute He shares with us.” quoting from Lamentations 3:22–24, the Moderator stated that God’s faithfulness is unwavering:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed… great is His faithfulness.”

He added that whatever God says comes to pass because He has unlimited power and does not lie, referencing the testimony of Balaam in the book of Numbers 23:19. The Moderator reminded the congregation that God honours His promises, and though His timing may differ from human expectations, His faithfulness is sure.

“Sometimes it takes a long time. Sometimes it seems as if it will not happen because we calculate with human time,” he said. “But no matter how long it takes, God will show His faithfulness.”

Turning his attention to the church’s heritage, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare‑Kwakye highlighted the example of the early missionaries who arrived in 1828, describing them as men who “walked faithfully with God” and sacrificed greatly for the establishment of the Presbyterian Church in Ghana.

He urged congregants to fulfil their vows to God, quoting Ecclesiastes 5:4–5, which warns believers not to delay in honouring the promises they make to the Lord. Faithfulness, he stressed, is demonstrated not only in words but in obedience, commitment, and trust.

The Moderator encouraged the congregants to depend wholly on God in all things. “Trust in the Lord. Depend on the Lord. God does not disappoint,” he affirmed. “Walk faithfully with the Lord, for He remains faithful to all who trust in Him.”
