Moderator elected Vice Chair of Christian Council of Ghana
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has been elected Vice Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) at the Council’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held on Thursday at the PCG Head Office, Kuku Hill, Osu.
His election places him at the centre of the Council’s leadership at a time when the CCG is preparing for major moments, including its centenary celebration in 2029. The Council expressed hope that God will equip its new leaders “to provide the needed leadership and commitment for a prosperous future” (CCG Release).
At the same meeting, the Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Enoch Nii Narh Thompson, was elected Chairman of the Council. He succeeds Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. B.D.K. Agbeko (Rtd.), who served from May 2025 to May 2026. Rev. Thompson previously served as Vice Chairman and has long been involved in the Council’s Standing and Executive Committees.
A statement by the CCG acknowledged Rev. Thompson’s extensive ministry experience, noting that he “comes to the headship of the Christian Council of Ghana with considerable years of dedicated service to the Christian community and to the nation as a whole.”
His leadership journey spans roles in Ghana and Canada, including service within the Ghana Baptist Convention, the Baptist World Alliance, and several theological institutions. His able leadership combined with that of the Moderator is expected to strengthen and advance the mission of Christian unity, national engagement and social transformation.
