RTC strengthens mental health, wellness support
The Ramseyer Training Centre (RTC) is taking major steps to enhance mental health and wellness support for trainees, staff, and faculty, according to Director Rev. Gideon Buernor Puplampu.
Delivering his final graduation address, he highlighted the Centre’s growing commitment to holistic formation—spiritual, mental, and physical—as required by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s standards for ministerial readiness.
He noted that the Chapel’s wellness ministry had provided spiritual direction, mental health interventions, and physical health screenings throughout the period. Although the Centre’s hospital faced delays in delivering medical results, he assured the audience that efforts were underway to improve service delivery.
A key development was the Board’s approval to outsource part of the wellness ministry to a team of professional Presbyterian clinical psychologists, who have already begun administering mental health support to trainees.
Rev. Puplampu said this intervention must be extended to staff and faculty to ensure mental health remains central to RTC’s formation agenda. He emphasised that the church’s constitution requires ministers to be “physically and mentally capable of discharging their duty,” making wellness an essential component of training.
He also reported steady progress in programme delivery across all categories. Monthly online alumni sessions have begun to address issues arising as ministers serve in congregations. Work continues on improving certificates and strengthening ministry support for ministers’ spouses. Before the year ends, new training modules will be rolled out for both spouses and the “words of the month” cohort of the church.
Rev. Puplampu stated that while there is room for improvement, RTC is steadily advancing in its mission to produce wholesome ministers—spiritually grounded, mentally stable, and physically capable of serving the church with excellence.
