The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) has announced that the newly launched Moderatorial Gown Design Competition is officially open to all PCG members with creative abilities and a desire to contribute to the church’s heritage. The announcement was made during the launch ceremony at Church House, Osu, Accra.
Speaking at the event, the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, encouraged members with artistic and design skills to participate wholeheartedly. He noted that the competition offers both a spiritual and creative opportunity for Presbyterians to help shape a gown that reflects the church’s identity, heritage, and theological character.
The Moderator stressed that although the competition is open, participants must be verified Presbyterians. He explained that this requirement is essential to ensure that the gown—an important symbol of the church’s leadership and tradition—is designed by individuals who are genuinely part of the PCG.
“This must come from among us,” he said. “We cannot allow a situation where someone outside the church later claims to have designed the Presbyterian Moderatorial gown. Those who participate must be verified through our system.”
He encouraged members who feel led by the Spirit and gifted in design to step forward and showcase their creativity. He expressed gratitude to all who attended the launch and reaffirmed the church’s commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and culturally grounded design process.
The Moderatorial Gown Review Committee is convened by Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, former Clerk of the General Assembly. The committee members are Rev. Georgina Kwanima Boateng, Rev. Benjamin Appiah, Rev. Peter Kofi Nyarko, Rev. Dr. Ernestina Afriyie, fashion expert Dr. Daniel Danso, co‑opted member Rev. Dr. Edwin Buertey, and Rev. Andrew Odjawo.
