Seventeen catechists from across the fifteen districts of the Upper Presbytery have undergone a two‑day refresher training aimed at strengthening their ministry and enhancing their effectiveness in congregational leadership.
The 2026 Upper Presbytery Catechists’ Continuous Training Programme took place on 31st July and 1st August at the Farmers Training Centre, Pusu‑Namongo. The training was facilitated by the Presbytery leadership: Rev. Roger A. Wegurih, Chairperson; Rev. Anthony A. Ayeida, Clerk; and Rev. Ebenezer Asiedu, Director of Mission and Evangelism.
Together, they led participants through a series of sessions designed to deepen their understanding of ministry and equip them for the evolving needs of the Church.
Participants were taken through teachings on how culture serves as a pointer to the gospel, helping catechists appreciate the role of cultural values and practices in effective evangelism. They also explored the relationship between the message, the messenger, and the context, emphasising the need for catechists to understand their role as gospel bearers within diverse ministry environments.
Another key area of focus was fundraising, where catechists were introduced to strategies that go beyond traditional tithes and offerings, enabling congregations to mobilise resources more sustainably. The facilitators also clarified the conditions of service for catechists, ensuring participants understood their responsibilities, welfare provisions, and expectations within the Presbyterian system.
The programme forms part of the Presbytery’s commitment to continuous capacity building, ensuring that catechists remain well‑equipped to support congregational growth, nurture members spiritually, and uphold the Presbyterian tradition of disciplined Christian service. Participants expressed appreciation for the training and pledged to apply the lessons in their various districts to strengthen mission work and deepen the Church’s witness.
