Christian politicians have been charged to uphold faithfulness, integrity and truthfulness in public life.
Preaching at the 50th Anniversary thanksgiving service of the Salvation Congregation, Mile 7 – Achimota, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare‑Kwakye, stated that God’s faithfulness is not only a divine attribute, but a moral standard expected of all who profess the Christian faith, including those who hold political office.
Drawing from the anniversary theme, “50 Years of God’s Faithfulness and Grace: Advancing with Purpose,” the Moderator explained that faithfulness is one of God’s shared attributes, a quality God expects His people to reflect in their daily lives. While attributes such as omnipotence and omnipresence cannot be shared, he said faithfulness, love and integrity are traits God desires to see in His children.
He reminded worshippers that God does not lie, does not change His mind and always keeps His promises, quoting Numbers 23:19 to emphasise the unwavering nature of divine faithfulness. He added that Salvation Congregation’s fifty‑year journey is proof that God has remained true to His word and has never abandoned His people.
Turning to national leadership, the Moderator said the same standard must guide Christian politicians. He cautioned against leaders who make promises during campaigns but fail to honour them once entrusted with authority. “When you are campaigning and you say one thing, and because we believe you and trust you, we put authority in your hands, and then when you come into office you do something else, that is not faithfulness,” he said.
He stressed that God expects Christian politicians to be truthful, consistent and committed to the vows they make before the public. He noted that broken promises erode trust and weaken the moral fabric of society. He urged Christian leaders in politics to demonstrate integrity by keeping their word, serving with honesty and reflecting the character of Christ in their public duties. “The Lord is faithful, and God expects Christian politicians to also be faithful,” he declared.
