Deputy Minister for Interior Pays Courtesy Call on Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana
Accra, Ghana – April 15, 2025
The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, at the Church’s Head Office in Accra.
The purpose of the visit was to formally introduce himself to the leadership of the Church following his assumption of office, and to request spiritual support and prayers as he undertakes his national duties.
Welcoming the Deputy Minister and his entourage, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye commended Hon. Terlabi for the thoughtful gesture and acknowledged the importance of collaboration between the Church and state institutions in building a peaceful and prosperous nation. The Moderator emphasized the role of the Church not only as a spiritual guide, but also as a key stakeholder in national development.
During the interaction, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye raised several critical national concerns, including the protracted Bawku conflict, which continues to affect lives and stability in the northern parts of Ghana. He called for a quick and lasting resolution to this re-occurring dispute, urging him for intensified dialogue, justice, and long-term peace-building strategies in the region.
The Moderator also drew attention to the disturbances some tyrants who illegally enters PCG land at Kutunse earmarked for the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s conference center, calling on him to intervene for the Church. Sharing his observation during his pastoral visit to Wasa Akropong area, he highlighted the devastating impact of illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, on the environment and communities, stressing the need for firmer enforcement of laws and a national moral awakening to combat the menace.
In his remarks, Hon. Terlabi expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and internal security across the country. He assured the Moderator that the concerns raised would be conveyed to the appropriate authorities and handled with the seriousness they deserve.
Hon. Ebenezer Terlabi added that, “As government, we must acknowledge that we cannot do it alone. We need divine direction, and that is why I came to seek your prayers,”
In a symbolic and heartfelt gesture, Rt. Rev. Dr. Opare Kwakye with Rev. Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, Clerk of the General Assembly presented a Holy Bible to the Deputy Minister, encouraging him to seek wisdom, humility, and strength from God in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The visit concluded with a prayer session, as both parties expressed a shared commitment to fostering peace, justice, and unity in Ghana.
