Discipleship training manuals not for the shelves
The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye has called on presbyteries and congregations to make full use of newly published training manuals, stressing that they are vital tools for accelerating the church’s growth agenda.
Addressing participants at the National Evangelism and Church Growth Consultation, he said the past year had seen transformative programmes that deepened the church’s evangelistic mission and strengthened its roots in Christ.
He pointed to Agenda 2 Million and the ambitious plan to plant 1,000 new congregations as evidence of the church’s shared vision of expansion, built on the conviction that every member is both a disciple and a disciple-maker.
To sharpen this focus, several documents have been published, including guidelines on shepherding, a document addressing excesses in renewal services, the National Crusade manual, and the discipleship training manual.
“These documents are not meant for the shelves,” the Moderator declared. “They are meant to be used so that our growth will be accelerated” he stated. He urged presbyteries to ensure that leaders are trained using the discipleship manual and that every district and congregation owns copies to guide their ministry.
He pointed out that the time had come to move beyond simply producing documents to personalising and operationalising them in everyday church life. By doing so, he said, the PCG will strengthen discipleship, empower members, and sustain its mission of evangelism and growth across Ghana and beyond.
