‘You’re custodians of the church’ – Ga Presbytery Chairperson
The Ga Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Col. David Adoteye-Asare, has urged ministerial trainees of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to embrace their calling with a deep sense of responsibility, identity, and continuity.
He delivered this charge when students from the Ramseyer Training Centre, Abetifi, and the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, visited the Presbytery’s 2026 Session at the Presbyterian Women’s Training Centre, Abokobi.
Addressing the trainees, Rev. Col. Adoteye‑Asare reminded them that their calling places them within a long and honourable tradition of leadership in the church. “You are kings and queens, and kings and queens are custodians of tradition,” he said, stressing that the PCG has a distinct identity shaped by Scripture, the Constitution, the Manual of Order, and long‑standing conventions that must be upheld.
“You have decided to serve God through the instrumentality of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana,” he noted. “It has its own identity, protected and upheld by the Word of God, the Constitution, the Manual of Order, and unwritten conventions which you must respect. You are custodians of the church” he said.
He further stated the church’s commitment to democratic governance, describing it as one of the defining strengths of Presbyterianism. “What I like about our church is that it upholds democratic principles. That is what makes me very proud, apart from Jesus Christ,” he added.
Looking ahead to the Church’s bicentennial celebration in 2028, he reminded the trainees that each generation has faced its own challenges and risen to the occasion. “Two years from now, we will be 200 years. We have evolved; each generation stood up to the challenge of its time. For you, your time is AI. You are being raised to face the challenges of the new generation, which I believe you belong to.”
The trainees expressed their gratitude to the Presbytery for its guidance, mentorship, and continuous support. The visit ended with prayers for the students as they continue their formation for ministry.
