Our credibility rests on Christ alone – B/A Chairperson

Outgoing Brong Ahafo Presbytery Chairperson, Rev. Benjamin Appiah, has reaffirmed that the credibility of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana rests on Christ alone, reminding the Presbytery that Jesus Christ remains the only sure foundation on which the Church is built.

Speaking at the 60th Presbytery Session, he cautioned that even spiritually gifted churches can fall into immorality and division when they shift their focus from Christ, urging members to remain grounded in Scripture and faithful to the Church’s heritage.

Rev. Appiah’s address came at a crucial moment as the Presbytery prepares to elect a new Chairperson. He encouraged members to follow the clear guidelines provided for the election and prayed that the bond of peace would remain intact before, during, and after the process. He celebrated the collective labour that has shaped the Presbytery’s progress, noting that the achievements recorded during his tenure were the result of unity, sacrifice, and God’s sustaining grace.

Highlighting key achievements, he mentioned significant administrative improvements, including the distribution of 31 new laptops to all districts, annual retreats for Agents and their spouses, and the strengthening of a culture of appreciating catechists — a practice that has now been adopted by other Presbyteries.

He also cited the acquisition of a duty vehicle, the development of CLAN documents to enhance church life, and the strengthening of groups across the Presbytery. He recalled that Bono Ahafo hosted the maiden National Crusade in 2025, a major evangelistic effort that impacted many lives.

Rev. Appiah further outlined the Presbytery’s social interventions, including visits to the Sunyani Prisons where fines were paid for some inmates. He announced that the Presbytery is now part of the PCG Club 100,000 — Presbyteries whose membership exceeds 100,000.

He recounted the distribution of 20 sewing machines and the payment of apprenticeship fees for beneficiaries, though he expressed concern that many did not fully utilise the opportunity. He also reported that 62 students have received scholarships, with 30 completing nursing training, amounting to GHS 457,000 in educational support.

Turning to infrastructure, he highlighted major developments at the Ayakomaso Retreat Centre, including the purchase of a power plant and land to be developed into a Prayer Forest. He added that Bono Ahafo Presbytery is the second, after Asante Presbytery, to establish a fellowship for chiefs (Nananom), strengthening the relationship between the Church and traditional leadership.
