As part of activities marking this year’s World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has scheduled a national public lecture and the official launch of the Red Sunday Campaign for June 10, 2026.

The event, expected to take place in Tarkwa, will focus on critical environmental issues, particularly the devastating impact of illegal mining (galamsey) on Ghana’s land and water resources.

According to Mr. Bismark Asante of the Department for Ecumenical and Social Relations, the Church intends to use the occasion to raise national awareness and amplify its prophetic voice on environmental protection.

“We are going to Tarkwa to speak about illegal mining and to launch the Red Sunday Campaign,” he said.

The campaign will climax on Sunday, June 14, when Presbyterians across the country will be encouraged to wear red attire to worship as a symbolic call for environmental justice and national action.

A pastoral letter will also be distributed to congregations, urging members to demonstrate their commitment to environmental stewardship and to uphold their Christian responsibility to care for God’s creation.

“The campaign is our way of telling the nation and the world that Christians have a moral responsibility to care for God’s creation,” Mr. Asante added.

The Red Sunday Campaign forms part of the church’s broader commitment to creation care and its ongoing advocacy against environmental destruction.
