Data being collected to support flood victims
The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has begun urgent coordination efforts to support members and congregations affected by the recent floods that hit parts of Accra and other areas of the country. In a swift call to action, the church has requested provisional impact data from all Presbyteries to guide an immediate and compassionate response.
The Office of the Clerk of General Assembly, working through the Department of Social Services (DSS), has asked Presbyteries to submit early figures on affected members and damaged church properties.
This information will help the church mobilise relief resources, plan interventions, and coordinate support for displaced families, injured members, and congregations whose facilities have suffered damage.
Presbyteries have been asked to estimate the number of members or families who have been displaced, injured, or have lost property. They are also to list affected congregations, schools, health facilities, manses, and other church assets, with brief notes on the extent of damage.
Returns are to be consolidated and submitted to the Office of the Clerk through the DSS Director, Mrs Teiko Sabah. Acknowledging that data is still unfolding, the church has encouraged Presbyteries to share any available provisional figures immediately, with updates to follow as more details emerge.
This early information is expected to significantly enhance the church’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively as it works to support affected communities during this difficult period.
