Okuapemhene pays courtesy call on PCG Moderator
The Okuapemhene Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III paid a courtesy call on the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante at the Head Office in Accra on Wednesday.
The purpose of the visit was to deepen the long-standing relationship between the Church and the Akuapem Traditional Council.
The Moderator was excited to receive Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III and his entourage. He gave the assurance that the church would continue to collaborate with the traditional authorities to find solutions to the numerous problems confronting Ghanaian society.
Rt Rev Prof Mante commended the Akuapem Traditional Council for its support to the church since its establishment and added that the church would not also renege on its promise of supporting them in their bid to develop the area.
He also commended the people of Akuapem for living together as one people although there were few chieftaincies and land disputes facing them.
Rt Rev Prof Mante also commended the Okuapemhene and his people for assisting the first missionaries of the church who arrived from Switzerland to settle at Akropong and other towns without facing persecution or provocations from the people of Akuapem.
The Okuapemhene on his part expressed concern about the lack of jobs for the youth in the area which has brought about deviant behavior among the youth. He assured that the traditional council is doing all that it could to find solutions to such problems.
Okuapemhene also commended the moderator for remembering the role the traditional authorities played and continue to play to support the existence of the church.
He commended the church on its contributions to the socioeconomic development of the country since its establishment.
Okuapemhene said the existence of the church in the area had brought a lot of benefits to the people and gave the assurance that they would continue to collaborate with each other.
The Okuapemhene was accompanied by representatives of the other four divisions that formed the traditional council. They include Aburihene Otoobour Gyan Kwasi who is also the Adontenghene of Akuapem, Osabarima Opese Konadu II, Awukuguahene and acting Nifahene of Akuapem, Nana Manko Aba II Queen Mother of Amankrom and Gyasehemaa of Akuapem, Mr. Samuel Awuku, Chief Executive Officer of the National Lotteries Authority, Dr. Aboah Offei, leader of the Grace Evangelistic Team at Akropong Akuapem and others.
Present at the meeting were the Clerk of the General Assembly of the PCG, Rev Dr. Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, Rev Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Chairperson of the Ga Presbytery, Rev Ebenezer Acheampong Asiedu, Chairperson of the Akuapem Presbytery and other senior ministers of the church.
