The Chairperson of the Asante South Presbytery, Rev. Daniel Brobbey has opened the 11th edition of the Presbytery’s New Year School and its maiden Bicentennial Public Lecture.

The event, held at the PCG-Ascension Congregation in Obuasi, was historic and symbolic, offering the Presbytery an opportunity to reflect on its rapid development while contributing to the national bicentennial celebrations of the PCG.

In his address, Rev. Brobbey traced the journey of the Asante South Presbytery since its establishment on May 31, 2015, when it was carved out of the Asante Presbytery. He highlighted the impressive growth achieved over the past decade, noting that districts had increased from six to ten, congregations had expanded from sixty-eight to seventy-nine, preaching points had risen from seventy-six to one hundred and nine, and membership had surged from approximately seventeen thousand to nearly twenty-six thousand.

Rev. Brobbey explained that the New Year School, which began in 2016, was created to educate and equip members on issues critical for growth, relevance, and effective witness. He reflected on the rich theological tradition of the school, recalling the themes and distinguished speakers who had graced its platform, including Rev. Prof. Osei Safo-Kantanka, Very Rev. Prof. J.O.Y. Mante, and Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong.

This year’s program, he noted, was unique because the Presbytery had chosen to hold its first-ever public lecture as a contribution to the PCG’s bicentennial anniversary in 2028. Two seasoned speakers were introduced: Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi, who spoke on New Testament perspectives on tithing for church growth, and Rev. Dr. J.W. Acheampong, who reflected on God’s faithfulness and the impact of the gospel in the Asante South Presbytery.

Rev. Brobbey concluded by urging participants to give rapt attention to the lectures, stressing that they were designed to ensure the Presbytery continued to build effectively on the foundation already laid.
