PSHTS-Aburi ranked second best Presby SHS in Ghana
Presbyterian Senior High Technical School (PSHTS), Aburi, has recorded remarkable academic progress in recent years, earning recognition as one of Ghana’s top-performing senior high schools.
Speaking at a naming ceremony to honour distinguished personalities, Headmistress Mrs. Joyce Appiah highlighted the school’s steady rise in academic excellence, particularly in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“For the past five years, the school has chalked a sharp percentage increase in the results of the WASSCE. The school is no more on the SEIP list,” she announced proudly. The Secondary Education Improvement Project (SEIP), supported by the World Bank, was designed to assist low-performing schools. PSHTS-Aburi’s consistent improvement has lifted it out of that category.
She recounted the following statistics to back her claim. “In 2019, the school recorded a 22.20% pass rate. By 2020, this had nearly doubled to 42.20%. In 2021, the figure rose to 63.20%, and in 2022, it reached 79.10%. The upward trajectory continued in 2023 with an impressive 84.10% pass rate, before stabilising at 61.80% in 2024. The school is marching forward,” Mrs. Appiah affirmed.
Beyond WASSCE results, PSHTS-Aburi has also gained national recognition. According to the 2025 EN Analytics Report, published on January 22, 2026, and cited by the Ghana Education Service website, PSHTS ranked 28th among the Top 100 Senior High Schools in Ghana. The report further placed the school 4th in the Eastern Region, only behind St. Peter’s, Pope John, and Koforidua Sectech.
The school also ranked second among all Category “C” schools nationwide, 1st among Presbyterian schools in the Eastern Region, and 2nd best Presbyterian Senior High School in the country, coming only after Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon.
The EN Analytics Report, which focuses on performance in Science and Mathematics with reference to the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has consistently ranked PSTS-Aburi among the top 30 schools in Ghana for four consecutive years. In 2022, the school was ranked 29th, in 2023 it rose to 27th, and in both 2024 and 2025 it held the 28th position.
These achievements, Mrs. Appiah noted, have made PSHTS-Aburi increasingly attractive to prospective students and parents. “The upward trend in excellent academic outcomes since 2020 has attracted a growing number of students as the school has become academically appealing,” she said.
With this record of excellence, PSTS-Aburi continues to strengthen its reputation as a center of discipline, resilience, and faith-driven education, embodying the Presbyterian tradition of combining academic success with character formation.
