On the second day of his Central Presbytery pastoral visit, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, made a passionate appeal to traditional leaders — particularly the Nifahene of Agona Swedru, Nana Kwaku Essieni V — to help the church and other mission schools preserve the ethos that established them and shaped their identity.

Appeal to Nana Kwaku Essieni V

He stressed that mission schools were founded with clear values and guiding principles, and these must not be compromised. There is empirical evidence to show that 90 percent of the top 50 schools in Ghana are mission schools. The ethos of the missions must be respected and cannot simply be swept aside in the name of rights or convenience, the Moderator emphasised during his visit to the palace of Nana Kwaku Essieni V.

Chief’s Response and Call for Discipline

In response, Nana Kwaku Essieni V acknowledged the immense contributions of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to education in the country. He noted that discipline has always been the hallmark of the church and is deeply rooted in its ethos. Commending the PCG for upholding proper virtues, he further called for good parenting to ensure the proper nurturing of children.

The chief emphasized the sanctity of marriage, maintaining that children are best trained within its confines. He urged the church to continue preaching the importance of marriage and proper upbringing as a way to curtail indiscipline in society. Nana Kwaku Essieni V also accepted the Moderator’s invitation to attend the church’s bicentennial celebration in December 2028, highlighting the longstanding cordial relationship between the palace and the PCG.

Encouragement to Church Leaders

Earlier at Bethel Congregation, where the Moderator had been given a grand welcome, he thanked agents, ministers, and church leaders for their continuous sacrifices. Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye acknowledged that their work may not always be financially rewarding but praised their dedication, urging them to remain steadfast in their service.

Growth of PCG Worldwide

The Moderator reported that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana continues to grow globally, with vibrant congregations across the Americas and Europe. Citing his recent pastoral trip to the North America and Australia Presbytery, he noted that the church is expanding to the glory of God.

Bicentennial and Kutunse Project

He reiterated his call for congregants to pray for the church and remain committed to God, especially as preparations intensify for the bicentennial celebration, which will climax in December. He urged members to participate fully in all activities leading up to the anniversary.

The Moderator also updated the gathering on the Kutunse Project, describing its progress as encouraging and attributing it to God’s grace. While appreciating contributions from districts in the Swedru Zone, he stated that more financial support would be needed to complete the project to God’s glory.
