The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has in a statement commended President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s religious, moral, and cultural values, while sharply criticising Lincoln University’s decision to withdraw an honorary doctorate previously conferred on him.

In the release, signed by General Secretary of the CCG, Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose, the Council described the university’s action as “diplomatically inappropriate and disrespectful.” It stated that Ghana’s cultural and religious values must be respected, noting the historic ties between Lincoln University and Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The Council applauded President Mahama’s leadership, stating: “We commend His Excellency for his unwavering stance in preserving Ghana’s religious, moral, and cultural values, particularly his disapproval of LGBTQ+ activities.” It further urged Lincoln University to reconsider its decision, stressing that Ghana’s national dignity and values should not be undermined.

The statement assured prayers for President Mahama, highlighting the Council’s support for his leadership and commitment to Ghana’s moral fabric. It concluded: “We stand with the President and pray for wisdom, courage, and clarity as he continues to serve the nation.”

It is important to note that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, as a member of the Christian Council of Ghana, joins other denominations in this collective expression of solidarity. Together, the Council reaffirmed its role in defending Ghana’s values and promoting unity among Christian communities.
