Oboase Odeng: Samuel Otu congregation unveiled
The Oboase Odeng Congregation in the Adeiso District has been officially named the Samuel Otu Kwakye Congregation, honouring the late Mr. Samuel Otu Kwakye, a renowned Presbyterian musician whose evangelistic ministry left a lasting impact in the 1960s and 1970s. The naming ceremony took place on Sunday, 22nd March 2026, alongside the dedication of the chapel.
Mr. Kwakye was widely celebrated for using his musical gifts to draw people closer to Christ, particularly during Easter conventions. His legacy, church leaders noted, continues to inspire generations and stands as a testimony to how talents dedicated to God can leave an enduring mark of faith.
The service was led by Rev. Ebenezer Acheampong Asiedu, Chairperson of the Akuapem Presbytery, who preached on the theme “God’s Voice Brings Life.” He reminded the congregation that just as God’s word brings renewal and hope, the life and ministry of Mr. Kwakye remain a source of encouragement. Rev. Asiedu urged members to live out the legacy of service exemplified by the late musician. He was assisted by Rev. William Djan Yirenkyi, Adeiso District Minister.
The historic renaming was approved by the General Assembly Council following a proposal from the congregation. Church leaders described the decision as more than a title, but a celebration of faith, dedication, and service. The family of Mr. Kwakye expressed deep gratitude to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for the honour, calling it an exemplary act of recognition.
The event marked a defining moment for the Adeiso District, celebrating a man whose music, ministry, and unwavering faith continue to inspire. For the congregation, the Samuel Otu Kwakye name now stands as a living reminder that talents used for God’s glory leave footprints that endure across generations.
