Profile – Rev. Afari Kissi: Scholar, Teacher, Minister
Rev. Alexander Afari‑Kissi, born on 5th July 1978, is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and a dedicated educator whose life reflects discipline, scholarship, and faithful Christian service.
A native of Anum‑Boso in the Eastern Region, he is the fifth and last born of his parents, the late Mr. Godwin Kofi Afari‑Kissi, an ex‑service man, and Mrs. Margaret Asabea Afari‑Kissi, a businesswoman. He speaks Guan, Akuapem Twi, Asante Twi, and English, a linguistic strength that enriches his ministry across diverse communities.
Rev. Afari‑Kissi is married to Mrs. Sandra Afari‑Kissi, a science teacher at Oppon Memorial Senior High School. Their home is blessed with five children—two boys and three girls—and one adopted child. He was commissioned into the ministry on 6th August 2017 and ordained on 21st July 2019, marking the beginning of a committed pastoral journey.
A distinguished academic, Rev. Afari‑Kissi is currently a PhD candidate in Mathematics Education at the Akenten Appiah‑Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED). He holds an MPhil in Mathematics Education, an MSc in Industrial Mathematics, a Bachelor of Education in Mathematics with Statistics, and a Teacher’s Certificate A. His academic path began at Asamankese Secondary School and Asamankese Anum L/A JHS, where he excelled with distinction.
Alongside ministry, he has built a strong professional career as a mathematics educator. He has taught at Akraman JHS, Nyinahin Catholic SHS, and currently serves at Oppon Memorial Senior High School. He has held leadership roles including Head of Mathematics Department, National INSET Mathematics Trainer, School Chaplain, and UNICEF/GES Universal Design for Learning Trainer.
Within the Church, Rev. Afari‑Kissi has served faithfully in various capacities. He has ministered at PCG Hope Congregation, Kuntenase, and currently serves as Minister‑in‑Charge of PCG Emmanuel Congregation, Asikafoc Ammentam in the Buokrom Estate District. His ministerial qualifications include certificates from Akrofi‑Christaller Institute, Trinity Theological Seminary, and the Ramseyer Training Centre.
He has held several leadership roles in the Asante Presbytery, including Secretary of the Ministers’ Fellowship, Acting Assistant Secretary, member of the Special and Compliance Audit Team, AHRM Coordinator, DSS Coordinator, and Finance Committee Chairperson. His earlier years also saw him serve actively in Scripture Union and NUPS‑G leadership.
Rev. Afari‑Kissi is passionate about research, particularly in financial policy, ethnomathematics, mathematical modelling, boundary value problems, and learning theories. He has four academic publications to his credit and serves as a WAEC Assistant Examiner and NTC Assistant Examiner. His ministry interests include prayer, Bible study, child evangelism, and social outreach.
