B/A JY donates sanitary pads to Samuel Otu SHS
The Junior Youth Ministry of the Brong Ahafo Presbytery has extended vital support to female students of Samuel Otu Presbyterian Senior High School, Techimantia, through a major donation under its ongoing Pad a Girl Campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and sustaining girls’ education.
As part of activities marking World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Ministry—working in partnership with the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council—presented 36 boxes containing 1,224 sanitary pads, valued at over GH¢5,100, to the school.
The intervention seeks to reduce absenteeism, restore dignity, and ensure that no girl’s education is disrupted due to lack of menstrual hygiene products. Receiving the delegation, the Headmaster, Mr. Evans Asare, expressed deep appreciation for the timely support.
He noted that the school, established in 1972 as a Presbyterian Commission School and renamed in 2017 in honour of the late martyr Samuel Otu, currently has a student population of 1,515, supported by 93 teaching and 32 non‑teaching staff. He emphasised that the donation would significantly boost the confidence and wellbeing of female students.
Representing the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. (Mrs.) Charity Gardiner, Development Officer Mr. Bismark Akwasi reinforced this year’s advocacy message, “One Girl, One Pad,” and further donated 50 packs of sanitary pads and Nsuo Ne Nkwan‑branded T‑shirts to staff as a gesture of solidarity.
The President of the Junior Youth Ministry, Dr. Gideon Annor Baah, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustaining the Pad a Girl Campaign, stressing that the initiative is a long‑term effort aimed at reaching more girls across senior high schools in the Presbytery. He also highlighted the importance of involving boys in menstrual health education to break stigma and promote empathy.
Students were taken through an educational session on menstrual hygiene by Miss Albertina Banaamwine, Miss Phillipa Owusuaa Awuah, and Mrs. Margaret Gyena Dzokoto, who provided practical guidance on menstrual health management and preventive care.
The event was attended by Rev. Simon Okrah, District Minister and Presbytery Director for Development and Social Services; Rev. Joseph Adu‑Minkah, Presbytery Junior Youth Coordinator; and Bro. Asante Kobrea, Techimantia JY District President, whose presence underscored the Church’s commitment to youth empowerment and social transformation.
