Ga West Presbytery honours BECE top performer
The Ga West Presbytery has honoured Master Adu‑Twum George, a former student of Weija Gbawe Presbyterian Basic School, for his exceptional performance in the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), where he emerged as the Overall Best Student with an impressive raw score of 488.
The honour was conferred during a colourful ceremony held on the school premises, where the Clerk of Presbytery, Rev. Kennedy Kofi Asante Sarpong, presented a citation and a cash award on behalf of the Presbytery Chairperson and the Presbytery Council.
Now a Science student at Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, Master Adu‑Twum received a hero’s welcome as students and staff of his alma mater mounted a parade in his honour. He arrived in the company of his parents, family members, and well‑wishers who joined in celebrating his remarkable achievement.
The ceremony also drew traditional authorities from the Weija Traditional Area, reflecting the community’s pride in the young scholar. In attendance were Nii Tompa Otsami, Representative of the Chief on the School Management Committee (SMC); Naa Deedei Amakumah I, Queen Mother of Weija Ashankpokua; and the Manye of Weija Ashankpokua, among other dignitaries.
In his exhortation, Rev. Sarpong encouraged students of the school and the wider Presbytery to avoid complacency and commit themselves wholeheartedly to their studies. He urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and determined to excel, so they may bring honour to their families, schools, and communities.
Reading the citation, the Clerk praised Master Adu‑Twum for distinguishing himself as the Overall Best Student in the Public Schools Category within the Ga West enclave of the Church. He then presented the citation together with an undisclosed cash award in recognition of the student’s outstanding accomplishment.
In his response, Master Adu‑Twum expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the leadership of the Ga West Presbytery, and the Presbytery Council for the honour bestowed on him. He encouraged his juniors to take their studies seriously and remain committed to excellence regardless of their circumstances.
“Take your studies seriously and make the most of every opportunity you have. Excellence is achievable when determination, discipline, and hard work are combined,” he advised.
Accompanying the Presbytery Clerk were the Weija‑Gbawe District Minister, Rev. Dr. Samuel Nortey Adjei; the Presbytery Regional Manager of Schools, Mr. Eugene Laryea; and the Presbytery Media Team Lead, Rev. Immanuel Asiamah Wiafe.
