APWCE invests Prof. Lydia Dankyi as 18th Principal
The Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education marked a historic moment on Thursday, 20th August 2026, when Principal, Prof. Mrs. Lydia Aframea Dankyi was formally invested as the 18th Principal of the institution. The ceremony, held on the college premises, drew a distinguished gathering of church leaders, education stakeholders and representatives of the Agogo community.
Among those present were Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye; Clerk of the General Assembly, Rev. David Aboagye‑Danquah; Council Chairman, Rev. Prof. Asare Danso; Acting Chairperson of the Asante Akyem Presbytery, Rev. Mavis Hannah Yeboah; General Manager of Presbyterian Schools, Mr. Daniel Yeboah Hienno; principals from sister Colleges of Education; and a representative of the Agogo Traditional Council.
In her inaugural address, Principal, Prof. Mrs. Dankyi said she was assuming leadership “with a deep sense of responsibility and humility,” noting that her vision aligns with the college’s mission and long‑term aspirations. She outlined four strategic pillars that will guide her tenure: effective institutional management, quality teaching and learning, collaborative research, and strong school–community relations.
She reported that the college has made significant progress “by the grace of God and the collective efforts of Management, staff, alumni, sponsors and key stakeholders.” These include the ongoing construction of a 430‑bed hostel, construction of the road from the main gate to the administration block, renovation of the college chapel, renovation of Halls 5 and 6, molding of 28,300 pavement blocks and 127 curve blocks, and donations from alumni groups such as the 1996- and 1999-Year Groups.
The new Principal also highlighted key challenges confronting the college, including the lack of Science and Music laboratories, inadequate office space, lack of buses for supported teaching, congestion at the Multi‑Purpose Auditorium due to stalled GETFund and hostel projects, absence of a field for Physical Education, lack of an official vehicle for the Principal, staff accommodation constraints and inadequate furniture.
The Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Kwakye, congratulated her and described her investiture as historic, noting that she is the first alumna of the college to be entrusted with its leadership. He said her journey “is a testimony to the transformative and rewarding power of education, faith and service,” and assured her of the church’s prayers and support as she leads the college toward growth and excellence.
The Special Guest of Honour was the Head of the Department of Behavioral and Psychosocial Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, Prof. Samuel Asiedu Owusu. The college expressed optimism that under Principal, Prof. Mrs. Lydia Aframea Dankyi’s leadership, Agogo Presbyterian Women’s College of Education will continue to produce transformative teachers for the nation.
